2. Eligibility & Age Requirements
2.1 Minimum Age
You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account and use Hive. We do not knowingly allow users under the age of 13 to use the Service.
2.2 Age Verification
During the registration process, we require you to provide your date of birth. This information is used solely for age verification purposes. Providing false age information is a violation of these Terms and may result in immediate account termination.
2.3 Users Under 18
If you are between the ages of 13 and 17, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their minor's use of the Service.

To protect against unauthorized access, accounts may be temporarily locked after 5 consecutive failed login attempts. During a lockout, you will be unable to log in until the lockout period expires or the account is unlocked by an administrator.

If you lose access to your account, you may recover it by:

4. Your Account & Responsibilities
4.1 Account Ownership
Your Hive account is personal to you and may not be transferred, sold, or assigned to any other person or entity without our prior written consent.

You are fully responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, including:
- Messages you send
- Content you upload or share
- Calls you make or participate in
- Communities you join or create
- Friend requests you send or accept
- Any other actions taken through your account
4.3 Account Information
You agree to keep your account information up to date and accurate. This includes:
- Valid email address for account recovery and notifications
- Accurate date of birth for age verification
- Current profile information
4.4 One Account Per Person
Each person is allowed only one Hive account. Creating multiple accounts, including accounts that evade a previous suspension or ban, is strictly prohibited and will result in the termination of all associated accounts.
5. Acceptable Use Policy
Hive is a platform for teens to connect, communicate, and build communities around shared interests. We expect all users to use the Service responsibly and respectfully. This Acceptable Use Policy outlines what is and isn't acceptable behavior on the Platform.

- Treat all users with respect and dignity

- Respect others' opinions, beliefs, and identities

6. Community Guidelines
Hive is built around communities. These guidelines ensure that communities remain safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.
6.1 Community Participation
- Read and follow each community's specific rules
- Stay on topic within each channel
- Use appropriate channels for different types of content
- Do not spam or flood channels with messages
- Respect community moderators and their decisions
6.2 Community Creation
If you create a community, you are responsible for:
- Setting clear rules and guidelines for your community
- Moderating content to ensure it complies with these Terms
- Appointing trusted moderators
- Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment
- Complying with all applicable laws and Hive's Terms of Service
6.3 Community Standards
All communities must:
- Comply with Hive's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines
- Not promote or facilitate illegal activities
- Not contain explicit, graphic, or disturbing content
- Not be used for spam, scams, or fraudulent purposes
- Have at least one active moderator
7. Content Standards
All content on Hive must meet certain standards. These standards apply to messages, profiles, media, and any other content shared on the Platform.
7.1 Content Must Be Appropriate
Content must not contain, promote, or depict:
- Nudity, sexual content, or sexually suggestive material
- Graphic violence, gore, or extreme disturbing imagery
- Hate speech, discrimination, or bigotry based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Harassment, bullying, or targeted abuse
- Threats of violence or harm
- Self-harm or suicide promotion
- Drug use or substance abuse promotion
- Illegal activities or instructions for illegal acts
- Personal information of others (doxxing)
- Sexual content involving minors (this will be reported to law enforcement)
7.2 Content Must Be Lawful
Content must not:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Infringe on intellectual property rights (copyright, trademark, etc.)
- Contain malware, viruses, or harmful code
- Be used for fraud, scams, or phishing
- Promote terrorism or extremist ideologies
7.3 Content Must Be Authentic

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited on Hive. Violations may result in warnings, mutes, strikes, account suspension, or permanent ban:

- Bullying, stalking, or threatening other users
- Posting content intended to hurt, embarrass, or intimidate someone
- Sending unwanted or repeated contact after being asked to stop
- Targeting users based on their identity or characteristics
- Creating accounts to harass or evade blocks
8.2 Spam & Manipulation
- Sending repetitive or unsolicited messages
- Advertising or promoting products/services without permission
- Using bots or automated scripts
- Manipulating votes, reactions, or other social features
- Creating multiple accounts for manipulation
- Buying, selling, or trading accounts
8.3 Scams & Fraud
- Phishing attempts or deceptive links
- Impersonating staff or official accounts
- Offering fake giveaways or rewards
- Requesting payment or financial information
- Sharing malicious links or downloads
8.4 Privacy Violations
- Sharing others' personal information without consent (doxxing)
- Screenshotting or recording private conversations without consent
- Using data collected from Hive for unauthorized purposes
- Attempting to access others' accounts
8.5 Technical Abuse
- Attempting to hack, exploit, or compromise the Service
- Introducing malware, viruses, or harmful code
- Attempting to access restricted areas of the Platform
- Interfering with or disrupting the Service
- Circumventing rate limits or security measures
- Reverse engineering or decompiling the Service
8.6 Age Violations
- Creating an account if under 13 years of age
- Providing false age information
- Engaging in romantic or sexual conversations with minors
- Sharing age-inappropriate content with minors
9. Content You Create
9.1 Your Content
You retain ownership of content you create and share on Hive, including messages, images, videos, and other media ("Your Content"). By sharing Your Content on Hive, you grant us a limited license to use, store, and display Your Content as necessary to operate the Service.
9.2 License Grant
By posting content on Hive, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to:
- Use, reproduce, and display Your Content within the Service
- Distribute Your Content to other users as directed by your actions (e.g., sending a message distributes it to the recipient)
- Store Your Content on our servers for delivery and backup purposes
- Make technical modifications necessary for the Service to function
This license is limited to the operation of the Service and does not grant us ownership of Your Content. You can delete Your Content at any time, and this license terminates when you delete the content or your account.
9.3 Content Responsibility
You are solely responsible for Your Content. You represent and warrant that:
- You own or have the necessary rights to share Your Content
- Your Content does not violate these Terms or any applicable law
- Your Content does not infringe on the rights of any third party
- You have obtained all necessary consents for content involving other people
9.4 Content Removal
You can delete Your Content at any time. We may also remove content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines. However, deleted content may persist in backups or caches for a limited time.

If your content was removed due to a DMCA notice and you believe the removal was erroneous, you may file a counter-notification. Include your contact information, identification of the removed content, and a statement under penalty of perjury.
11. User-Generated Content
11.1 Responsibility for Content
Hive users are responsible for the content they create, share, and interact with. We do not pre-screen all content but reserve the right to review, modify, or remove content that violates these Terms.
11.2 Content Moderation
We employ multiple layers of content moderation:
- AI Moderation: Automated detection of spam, toxicity, and policy violations
- Community Moderators: Volunteer moderators who enforce community-specific rules
- Hive Staff: Our team reviews reported content and makes final decisions
- User Reports: Users can report content that violates our guidelines
11.3 Content Ownership
Users own their content but grant Hive a license to use it within the Service. This means:
- You retain copyright of your original content
- You can delete your content at any time
- We may use your content within the Service as needed for functionality
- We will not use your content for advertising without your consent
12. Communities & Community Guidelines
12.1 Community Creation
Any user may create a community, subject to the following requirements:
- The community must have a clear purpose and name
- The community must not duplicate existing communities
- The community must comply with all of Hive's Terms and Guidelines
- The creator must be at least 13 years old
- The creator must commit to moderating the community
12.2 Community Moderation
Community creators and moderators are responsible for:
- Enforcing community-specific rules
- Removing content that violates community guidelines
- Managing membership (approving/removing members)
- Appointing and managing moderators
- Ensuring the community remains compliant with Hive's Terms
12.3 Community Admin Powers
Community creators and moderators have the ability to:
- Remove messages that violate community rules
- Mute members who violate rules
- Remove members from the community
- Configure community settings and permissions
- Enable or configure AI moderation features
- Create and manage channels
12.4 Default Communities
Hive may create default communities that all new users automatically join. These communities are managed by Hive staff and are subject to the same guidelines as all other communities.
12.5 Community Dissolution
Hive reserves the right to dissolve communities that:
- Violate Hive's Terms of Service
- Promote illegal activities
- Have inactive moderation
- Are used primarily for spam or abuse
- Contain content that violates our content standards
13. Direct Messaging
13.1 Private Communications
Hive provides direct messaging (DM) functionality for private conversations between users. DMs are intended for personal, non-commercial communication between consenting users.
13.2 DM Privacy
While DMs are private between participants, you should be aware that:
- The other participant can save, screenshot, or share your messages
- Messages may be reviewed if reported for policy violations
- Messages may be reviewed in response to valid legal requests
- Automated systems may scan messages for spam and abuse
13.3 DM Restrictions
You must not:
- Send unsolicited commercial messages (spam)
- Harass or threaten other users via DM
- Share explicit content without the recipient's consent
- Use DMs to coordinate rule violations
- Attempt to bypass DM privacy settings
13.4 DM Privacy Controls
You have control over who can send you DMs:
- Everyone: Any Hive user can message you
- Friends Only: Only your accepted friends can message you
- Nobody: No one can send you DMs
14. Voice & Video Calls
14.1 Call Features
Hive provides voice and video calling features for community calls and direct calls. By participating in calls, you agree to:
- Respect all participants during the call
- Not record calls without the consent of all participants
- Not use call features for harassment or abuse
- Not share explicit or inappropriate content during video calls
- Follow all community guidelines during community calls
14.2 Call Limitations
- Community calls are limited to 5 participants
- Direct calls are limited to 2 participants
- Call quality depends on your internet connection
- Hive does not guarantee call quality or availability
14.3 Call Recording
Recording calls without the consent of all participants is strictly prohibited. Violations may result in account suspension or termination.
14.4 Call Data
We collect metadata about calls (participants, duration, type) for service improvement and moderation purposes. We do not record or store the audio/video content of calls.
15. File Uploads & Media
15.1 Allowed File Types
Hive supports the following file types for upload:
- Images: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
- Videos: MP4, WebM, MOV
- Audio: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC
- Documents: PDF, TXT, DOC, DOCX
- Other: File types approved by Hive staff
15.2 File Size Limits
File uploads may be subject to size limits, which may vary based on your account type and the upload context. Current limits are displayed at the time of upload.
15.3 File Content
All uploaded files must comply with Hive's Content Standards (Section 7). Uploading inappropriate, illegal, or harmful content is prohibited and may result in account action.
15.4 File Ownership
You retain ownership of files you upload. By uploading files, you grant Hive a license to store and display the files as necessary for the Service to function.
15.5 File Sharing
Files shared in community channels are visible to all community members. Files shared in direct messages are visible to the conversation participants. Shared files may be accessible via direct URL by anyone who has the link.
16. AI Features & Automated Tools
16.1 AI Assistant ("Bee")
Hive offers an AI assistant called "Bee" that can help with various tasks. When using Bee:
- AI responses are generated automatically and may not always be accurate
- You should not rely on AI responses for important decisions
- AI conversations may be monitored for safety and improvement purposes
- Usage limits apply based on your account rank
- AI-generated content should be disclosed when shared
16.2 AI Content Moderation
We use AI to help moderate content in communities. AI moderation:
- Automatically detects spam, toxicity, and policy violations
- May automatically delete or flag violating content
- May issue automated warnings to users who violate policies
- Is configured by community administrators
- Does not replace human moderation for final decisions
16.3 AI Limitations
AI systems are not perfect. You should:
- Not rely solely on AI for important decisions
- Report AI errors or false positives to moderators
- Understand that AI may misinterpret context or intent
- Not attempt to manipulate or exploit AI systems

18. Warnings, Mutes & Strikes
18.1 Warning System
When you violate Hive's policies, you may receive a warning. Warnings:

- Include the reason for the warning
- Are tracked across your account
- Accumulate over time
- May result in escalating consequences
18.2 Mutes
A mute temporarily restricts your ability to:
- Send messages in community channels
- Participate in community calls
- Send direct messages
Mutes have a defined duration and are automatically lifted when they expire. Mutes can be issued by:
- Community moderators (within their community)
- Hive staff (across the platform)
- AI moderation systems (automated)
18.3 Strikes
Strikes are more serious consequences for repeated or severe violations:
- Strike 1: Warning notification
- Strike 2: Temporary suspension (24-72 hours)
- Strike 3: Extended suspension (7-30 days)
- Strike 4+: Permanent ban consideration
The specific consequences depend on the severity and nature of the violation.
18.4 Strike Reset
Strikes may expire after a certain period of good behavior (typically 6-12 months), depending on the severity of the original violation.
19. Account Suspension & Termination
19.1 Suspension
We may temporarily suspend your account if you:
- Violate these Terms of Service
- Violate our Community Guidelines
- Engage in prohibited conduct
- Are reported by other users for policy violations
- Are found to have provided false information
During a suspension, you cannot access your account or use the Service. Suspensions may be temporary or indefinite depending on the severity of the violation.
19.2 Termination by You
You may delete your account at any time through:
- Settings > Account > Delete Account

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. See our Privacy Policy for details on what happens to your data.
19.3 Termination by Us
We may terminate your account if you:
- Repeatedly or seriously violate these Terms
- Engage in illegal activity on the Platform
- Poses a safety risk to other users
- Provide false registration information
- Create multiple accounts to evade enforcement
We will notify you of account termination when possible, except where prohibited by law or where notification would compromise safety.
19.4 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your access to the Service is immediately revoked
- Your profile is no longer visible to other users
- Your username is released after 30 days

All reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We aim to respond to reports within 48 hours. Reports are treated confidentially, and the reporter's identity is not shared with the reported user.
20.4 Appeals Process
If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you can appeal by:

- Including your username and the specific action you're appealing
- Providing any additional context or evidence
We will review your appeal and respond within 14 days. Our appeal decisions are final.
21. Virtual Items & Premium Features
21.1 Free Service
Hive is a free service. Basic features including messaging, communities, calls, and profile customization are available to all users at no cost.
21.2 Premium Features
Hive may offer premium features or subscriptions in the future. If and when premium features are introduced:
- Pricing and features will be clearly disclosed
- Free features will remain free
- Payment terms will be provided at the time of purchase
- Refund policies will be clearly stated
21.3 Virtual Items
If Hive offers virtual items (profile frames, effects, etc.):
- Virtual items are licensed, not sold
- Virtual items have no real-world monetary value
- Virtual items may not be transferred, traded, or sold
- Virtual items may be revoked if your account is terminated

- YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICE

- UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT

- The behavior of users on or off the Platform
- Content posted by users
- Interactions between users, both online and offline
- The accuracy of information provided by users
- Damage or harm resulting from user interactions
You are responsible for your own safety when using the Platform. Do not share personal information that could put you at risk, and report any suspicious or dangerous behavior immediately.
24.5 Maximum Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID TO HIVE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR $100, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
25. Indemnification
